About the business unit  
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and​ advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy. 

 

Overview of role

Join us as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, where you will be instrumental in supporting the development of client relationships and driving the growth of our team as we expand into Ireland. Alongside leading major rail projects, where you will leverage your commercial and contract experience, you will also have the exciting opportunity to manage a dedicated team within Mott Macdonald.

A bit about the team
Our transportation team operates in Aviation, Highways, Rail, and Maritime industries. Our vision is to deliver major transportation projects as part of a global business and to establish our wide-ranging consultancy as ‘credible’ and ‘preferred’ for our existing and new clients.

 

What you will contribute to the team;

  • Cost analysis, cost control and cost reporting activities on projects and programmes.

  • Contract and procurement advice, setup activities and post contract management.

  • NEC contract management, assessment of compensation events, review and agreement of defined cost including targeted auditing where required.

  • Liaise with contractor and client counterparts on reporting, budgets, PO, invoicing etc and formally reviewing and submit contractual changes and early warnings on behalf of the project team.

  • Analyse contractors' cost reports and extract required data for management reporting.

  • Prepare and report cost engineering information & reports on a monthly basis and additional ad-hoc reports as required by Management e.g Cashflow, Actuals, Variance reporting.

  • Manage supporting staff members where appropriate e.g Assistant Quantity Surveyors.

  • Production of the Application for Payment including a critical review of time billed (e.g appropriate commentary, recoverable activities)

  • Subconsultant due diligence, contract variations, payment and maintaining relevant documents.

  • Action and lead queries on contracts and cost submissions from contractors, particularly in relation to two stage D&B contracts.

  • Provide input and recommendations for cost engineering requirements.

  • Organise, monitor and control project costs and will define project needs for cost control in accordance with contractual requirements, objectives, and company procedures.

  • Complete final account/contract closure

  • Review and analyse all claims and Change Orders on project contracts.

  • Review Early Warning Submissions

 


Required for the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor: 

  • MRICS Chartership status.

  • Must be based out of Dublin or Cork (or surrounding areas).

  • Commercial and cost planning skills and experience of delivering ideally within a cost consultancy.

  • Demonstrated experience at Senior Quanity Surveyor level.

  • Previous experience of contract administration, particularly NEC contracts.

  • Relevant experience working on transportation projects - ideally rail.

  • Excellent IT Skills – Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • Previous experience working with cost and contract management tools

  • Strong communication skills including writing reports and presenting

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain

  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work

  • Flexibility to travel to client sites and other MM offices
