About the role
Due to continued growth, the Systems Engineering and Assurance team are recruiting a Principal / Senior Systems Safety Engineer/RAM Engineer to join a friendly and dynamic team focussed on delivering systems safety and RAMS assurance services to infrastructure, energy, and technology projects.

 

Some of the key services provided by the team include:
•    Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Planning and Analysis
•    RAM Modelling using Isograph Reliability and Availability Workbench
•    Systems Safety Planning and Management
•    Hazard Identification and Management
•    Safety Case Development.

 

The Senior or Principal Systems Safety/RAMS Engineer will collaborate with experienced professionals within multi-disciplinary teams and will gain experience of using industry standard toolsets on a range of challenging and dynamic projects. In addition to the delivery of project work, you will be expected to work on bids and proposals and undertake line managerial role for our Early Career Professionals (ECP).

 

The role will be based in Birmingham, Bristol, Croydon, Glasgow or London, but other locations can be considered. Due to the nature of our business, you will be willing to travel for projects when required, such as visits on-site. As part of the Systems Engineering and Assurance team you will be working on projects in the UK but may also become involved in international projects.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
•    Develop Systems Safety Plan (SSP) and RAM (Reliability Availability Maintainability) Plan in accordance with the industry best practice and international standards.
•    Define, maintain, and implement the systems safety and RAM activities and deliverables within a project such as Hazard Identification (HazID) facilitation, Hazard Record Management, Failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA)
•    Obtain agreement of the SSP and RAM Plan with clients and contractors. Where required, support the contractors to develop plans to capture their obligations for Systems Safety and RAM.
•    Establish methodologies and processes (including software as required) to facilitate Systems Safety and RAM Management, for example the use of ComplyPro and Isograph Reliability and Availability Workbench.
•    Establish the resource requirements to deliver the Systems Safety and RAM activities, including providing leadership and mentoring as appropriate.
•    Coordinate the Systems Safety and RAM activities in line with the Project/Programme Management Plan.
•    Cascade the obligations of all key roles defined in the SSP and RAM Plan to those resources, to embed the Systems Safety and RAM into the project delivery.
•    Provide technical leadership to the functional and project teams for System Safety and RAM.
•    Responsible for aligning System Safety Management and RAM Management with Technical Assurance (system engineering lifecycle and milestone deliverables).
•    Provide leadership for the team’s bidding activities to support work winning efforts
•    Provide technical leadership for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Determination and SIL Validation to relevant industry standards (BS EN 61508, EN 50126, EN 50128)

 

Candidate specification
We are looking for adaptable, initiative-taking individuals who are excellent working both individually and in a team. We need you to be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both your colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication.

 

A strong attention to detail is essential, as well as having a methodical approach to problem solving. We will expect you to draw on your experiences to manage your time effectively and to meet deadlines.

 

You will have a degree in an engineering, mathematical or science-based subject and you will have experience in Systems Safety Management and RAM, and associated processes/lifecycles along with deep understanding of the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA), BS EN 50126 and other rail industry & CENELEC standards.

 

You will have some experience in project and commercial management with a consultancy, and will be a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. SaRS, IET, IMechE) with professional registration as a Chartered Engineer.
