About the Role

 

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of all Mechanical systems and interfaces with wider MEP Systems and building elements for the design of a wide range of projects in the Built Environment sector. You will also be required to support the commercial team and assurance team to validate the design compliance with the employer requirements.

 

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

  • Assist in conducting primary technical reviews on design deliverables related to Mechanical building services equipment and system design and calculations. Eg plant general arrangements and P&IDs and managing the production of documentation such as feasibility reports, calculations, specifications, plant schedules, tenders, schedule of prices, engineer’s estimates and factory and site acceptance documents;
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate mechanical systems, including district cooling, station ventilation and air conditioning, fire and life safety systems (smoke control/staircase pressurisation), heat recovery, etc.
  • Coordinate and control multidisciplinary design interface requirements. eg MEP and Structures
  • Support the preparation of reports, manuals, and guidelines, including intra- and extra-interfaces.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on design changes and non-conformances to ensure requirements are met.
  • Arrange multidisciplinary review workshops, capture actions, and drive for closure.
  • Provide technical input as part of a technical advisory role while ensuring technical governance and company procedures.
  • Ensure the development of necessary documentation for the review process, which includes comments, recommendations, and corrective action plans for the prime contractor, as appropriate.
  • Support delivering commercial outcomes whilst adhering to programme, budget and project controls.

 

Candidate Specification

  •  Degree (BEng/BSc/BE) in Mechanical engineering from an accredited university;
  •  Chartered Engineer would be good to have, but is not a must
  •  The candidate must have a good knowledge of multi-disciplinary MEP services including Electrical, HVAC, Fire and Public Health. 
  •   A good knowledge of relevant British and NFPA standards is required as well as the ability to confidently coordinate between multidisciplinary design teams. 
  •   Experience of working on Major/Complex Projects and within multidisciplinary team would be preferred 
  •   The candidate must be able to speak English, be a good communicator, be self-motivated and able to plan his/her work to achieve the deliverables required
  •   Manage engineering teams comprising building services engineers, but if required, structural engineers and civil engineers
  •   Take financial control of projects
  •    Able to work and drive for success under pressure 
  •    Able to travel and work remotely from client offices or on site.

  •     Awareness of Digital delivery and BIM would be advantageous
  •     Demonstrable experience of coordinating with other disciplines and multiple stakeholders
  •     Ability to present design proposals and discuss design issues with clients, architects and other stakeholders
  •     Continuously looking for innovations and improvements to manage workload and accomplish deliverables across individuals, teams and projects
