About the division

 

The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations and protecting our environment. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.

Overview of role

Our water team is working with our clients to develop large water supply schemes across the country, ranging from new large scale open water storage reservoirs to pipeline transfers and treatment schemes, where planning permission will be sought through the Development Control Order (DCO) process.

 

Due to our success in this area, we are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated DCO engineering specialist to contribute to the successful delivery of major water projects. Our work includes option appraisal and technical feasibility assessments, design development and costing, and environmental assessments as part of multi-disciplinary teams and we need a talented individual to develop and drive the planning strategy. Our team will also be involved in procurement advisory and development of complex tender documents.

 

Your role will depend on your experience and interests but is likely to include:

  • Support to engineering and project leadership in the project development phase
  • Understanding the needs of our clients and their major projects
  • Technical coordination and client facing technical leadership
  • Support our project teams to deliver the appropriate level of engineering detail needed for public consultations, EIA and DCO
  • Coordinating across disciplines
  • Reviewing deliverables
  • Undertake technical mentoring role within projects, developing more junior team members
  • Work with project managers and project principals to ensure commercial success of projects.

Candidate specification

 

We are looking for a driven individual, keen to develop, take wide responsibilities and progress professionally. In addition, you will have:

  • Relevant technical degree
  • Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
  • Proven track record in developing planning applications of major infrastructure projects to a high quality.
  • Experience of DCO or other recent large project planning processes such as Transport and Works Order.
  • Significant experience in technical coordination and stakeholder engagement
  • Aptitude for innovation and driving efficiency
  • Able to guide and mentor junior staff
  • Excellent communication and written skills.

Desirable skills:

  • Project management experience 
  • Proven track record in winning work
  • Knowledge of the water and wastewater industry in the UK.
