About the division 

The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work.The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations and protecting our environment.Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.

 

Overview of role

Mott MacDonald is a market leader in the UK water sector, being a key supplier to major water companies and delivering a wide variety of engineering and advisory projects in support to the challenges faced by the sector. Our Water Consultancy Division has ambitious growth plans in line with AMP8 investment needs and we are proud of our strong reputation in the industry which is allowing us to expand our business.

 

AMP8 will see a major increase in the investment related to reducing storm overflows spills and Mott MacDonald aspire to become the market leader in supporting UK water companies facing this challenge. We have now secured new AMP8 consultancy frameworks adding to our existing framework commitments, meaning we have access to a significant business opportunity that we would like to realise through delivering excellent technical work.

 

There is an increasing need for engineering services related to sewer networks and combined storm overflows and as a result, we need to reinforce our team in the South,  South East and South West with a new Senior Associate Civil Engineer. In this role, you will work with and manage multidisciplinary teams of technical specialists, delivering projects in close partnership with clients and contractors, building strong relationships that will enhance our reputation and help secure further work. You will also lead the design of innovative and sustainable solutions to address storm overflows spills across our clients water networks. You will represent the company in meetings and supervise the work of more junior staff, providing technical and commercial guidance to support their development.

We are looking for a driven individual, with a strong UK wastewater infrastructure experience and the desire to take wider responsibilities, progress professionally and make a difference in the sector.

 

Required skills and experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field. 
  • Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.
  • Significant experience in the development and delivery of outline, feasibility and detailed design solutions for sewer network and storm overflows within the UK water sector using appropriate calculation tools. 
  • A demonstrable understanding of hydraulic engineering principles.
  • A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions for combined storm overflows.
  • Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under CDM.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills using concise English.
  • Ability to check and review technical deliverables, calculations and reports.
  • Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams with other technical disciplines including environmental specialists, geotechnical, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers.

 

Desirable:

  • Track record in building teams and capability of junior staff.
  • Track record of identifying and delivering suitable blue-green solutions.
  • Understanding of process engineering applicable to storm overflows. 
  • Experience in preparing successfully bids and in undertaking client engagement.
