About the business unit 

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and​ advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

 

Overview of role

We are looking for a Traffic Signals Engineer who will assist in the delivery of our existing portfolio of work and build on the continuing success and growth of our business in the Engineering and Consulting team. This role will provide support to the existing traffic signals team members. You will play an important role in delivering a wide range of high-profile traffic engineering projects and to further build our business. The ITS Engineer (Traffic Signals) position supports the end-to-end service model from concept through design to delivery and then into maintenance. It includes support to, and the delivering of, traffic signals, ITS & technology projects for varied clients, including Strategic Transport bodies, Sub-National and Regional entities, and Local Highway Authorities. 

 

You will report to the Senior Traffic Signals Engineer and Traffic Signals Team management, and be responsible for Traffic Signals work within the Engineering and Consulting Team, supporting activities and tasks including: scoping, development, delivery, construction, maintenance and co-ordination of our portfolio of traffic signals projects across the business. This list is not exhaustive and other activities may be required according to ongoing project work and Engineering and Consulting team requirements.

 

Candidate specification

 

You will have previous experience within Traffic Signals engineering role, and of contributing towards successfully delivering projects to time, cost, and quality standards. You will also have experience of the co-ordination of the design process. Experience of various aspects of traffic signal engineering, such as feasibility and preliminary design and commissioning is essential. You will have used modelling software such as TRANSYT but especially LinSig. Experience in specification and programming of microprocessor traffic signal controllers and the specification and validation of all signals modes, including UTC/SCOOT and MOVA systems would be very desirable. Knowledge of working with engineering software packages such as AutoCAD, would be beneficial. You will also have experience working with other team members. You will be a member of a professional body (e.g. IHE, CIHT, IET). The ability to travel and the flexibility to work from different offices/locations on occasion would be beneficial.

 

Essential:

  • Previous experience in traffic signals engineering
  • Experience of traffic modelling software
  • Experience of working as part of a team to deliver traffic signals projects
  • Membership of a professional body

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of specification and programming of traffic signals controllers, and all signals modes
  • Experience of working with engineering software packages such as AutoCAD and KeySignals
  • Ability to travel, and flexibility to work from different offices/locations on occasion
