About the business unit  
The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.  

 

About the role
We are seeking a Biodiversity Consultant to work within the Environmental and Social team in Turkey. The role requires working on wide range of projects which will involve interfacing with clients, contractors and other consultants providing project management expertise.


You will be responsible for providing ecological and biodiversity inputs to a range of projects, working closely with other disciplines to ensure ecological objectives for projects are delivered successfully, within budget and to programme. The tasks will include coordinating and undertaking biodiversity reviews and assessments as part of ESIAs and due diligence, designing survey/monitoring methods, liaising with and coordinating local consultants, preparing specialist studies and plans such as critical habitat assessments, biodiversity management/action/offset plans etc. 


You will also need to have the capacity to work for international environmental projects and related advisory services, and have a basic understanding of legal and commercial aspects related to technical aspects.

 

The successful candidate will need/have:

  • Degree in ecology, biology, zoology, botany or directly related subject
  • Advanced experience specifically within a consultancy environment
  • Good understanding and practical experience in using the main international and lender (in particular IFC Performance Standard 6) policy and guidance on biodiversity and nature conservation
  • Experience in designing and undertaking biodiversity survey/monitoring and analysing the data (habitat/species identification, ability to prepare survey methodology for different species groups, and interpret the accuracy and quality of data etc.)
  • Experience in undertaking biodiversity assessments and ESIA for projects funded by International Financial Institutions
  • Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports in English
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, take the initiative, make robust, defensible decisions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs
  • Experience in working directly with clients and stakeholders
  • Experience in undertaking due diligence to international finance institutions’ standards 
  • Experience in critical habitat assessments, collision risk assessment, biodiversity offsetting and net gain, monitoring of construction and operation phases of different types of projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Turkish is mandatory
  • A good inter-personal skills with the ability to integrate into existing teams, and work alongside colleagues of other disciplines
  • Progressive and imaginative approach in their work and strive to add value where possible for the benefit of the company and our clients
  • Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork in Turkey and internationally
  • Good adoption skills to new and challenging environments.
