Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

As an engineer in the ports, coastal, and offshore practice (PCO), I regularly focus on different types of waterfront infrastructure, including piers, wharves, boat ramps, floats, marinas, fender systems, dolphins, and breakwaters.

I love being able to observe the history of existing structures and apply that knowledge and experience to make improvements during the rehabilitation or replacement process.

Water transport, especially in Seattle, is a vital part of the economy, both on a local and global scale. Being able to contribute to the maintenance and evolution of our waterfront infrastructure has been a very rewarding and exciting experience.

A notable project is the condition assessment of the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco, CA, a historical ferry terminal that has been repurposed as a berth for a collection of historical vessels as part of the National Park Service’s San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. I was part of a team of diver, structural, mechanical, and electrical inspectors to assess the condition of the pier and provide repair and replacement recommendations.
