Biography

Karen Bettencourt is the pump station leader for North America. In her role, she supports growth and provides leadership to our water process mechanical design team in the delivery of large water resources, treatment, and conveyance projects.

Karen’s 20 years of experience includes process mechanical designs of water, wastewater, stormwater, combined sewer, and water resources facilities from conceptual layout through construction support. Her relevant pump station experience encompasses 290 MGD water pumps for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's Croton Water Treatment Plant, 157 MGD effluent pump station for Nassau County’s Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, and stormwater and combined sewer pumping facilities. Karen has also participated in numerous hydraulic performance test evaluations and field tests, including a two-year duration factory testing program for replacement of roller gates at the Post Falls (Avista) Hydroelectric Plant in Idaho.

Karen has served as co-chair of the Hydraulic Institute’s OH1 Specification Work Group and currently participates on five other Hydraulic Institute standards committees.
