I’ve worked across a diverse collection of projects, each with their unique challenges.
The diversity of the work. Having been a project manager at Mott MacDonald for over 14 years, I’ve worked across a diverse collection of projects, each with their unique challenges. That’s the beauty of project management: if your work is rooted in sound methodology, it can be applied to any industry or sector.
My background in communications effectively chose project management for me. It’s said that a project manager spends 90% of their time communicating, which comes naturally to me. Some of the projects I’ve worked on are extraordinarily complex, and ensuring that the right people get the right information at the right time is critical to their success.
Always be ready
Two things. 1) Apply project management principles to any task, however small. 2) Get immersed in the technical work. For one, it makes it more interesting, but taking the time to understand the engineering nuances of the work always pays off in the long run.
In 2023, alongside my colleague Amir, I was honoured to be included on Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s “40 Under 40” list, recognising the most talented young individuals in the engineering community supporting the building industry. The award itself was great, but reading the testimonials that my colleagues took the time to write for me was just amazing.
