Good health is essential to sustainable development. Despite major improvements in recent years, health outcomes in developing countries continue to be undermined by a treble burden of historical infectious diseases, new emerging infectious diseases and an epidemic of non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. Compounded with fragmented health systems and lack of resources, this presents a huge challenge.
We start with the health-seeking behaviour of poor and vulnerable people and develop solutions from that premise. We work with our clients and partners to build sustainable and effective health systems in developing countries – with a particular focus on introducing sustainable financing mechanisms, such as national or social health insurance, to strive towards universal health coverage. We also support improvements in health care delivery – spanning both the public and private sector.
